The Islington Bubble

“Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford,” quoted Boswell of Samuel Johnson. But he didn’t live in Islington, 2007, with the lifestyle becoming ever more precarious.
This weekend, a long muse on the mixed feelings I have about where I live, the London Borough of Islington, an idyllic urban bubble in the middle of the insane British capital.

i’d leave london to come back to it again, i think.

I love the running commentary on the healthy guy standing on his head and the sinister dogs, mixed in with dark ruminations on how the bubble cannot last. I’m riding a train in Business class to Boston, amazed at how this new media enables me to follow a virtual stranger’s most intimate thoughts and perceptions. A small voice, perhaps, affecting few people. But how measure the effect of just one person finding this vlog, wondering at the bubble of my world, so comfortable and pampered. Anyway. I dug it big time, especially the sinister dogs.
